Learning English on your phone has become one of the most convenient and accessible ways to master the language.
Whether for travel, work, study, or simply out of curiosity, everyday English can open many doors.
Today I'm going to introduce you to the three apps that have helped me the most (and continue to help me) in learning English on my phone.
Duolingo:
If you've ever researched learning English online, you've probably heard of Duolingo.
It's a true icon among language apps, and for good reason.
What makes Duolingo so effective is its light and playful presentation of its content.
At first, I admit I thought it was just for kids.
The application is divided into thematic modules: food, family, colors, questions, travel, etc.
Each module offers short exercises in reading, listening, translation and pronunciation.
And most importantly, it's free.
Try using this app on your phone now.
Cake:
The second app that caught my eye was Cake.
Unlike Duolingo, which focuses on language structure, Cake offers everyday English, the kind you hear in movies, TV shows, and social media.
This is a great solution for those who want to get away from academic English and learn to speak like a native.
Cake's unique feature is its short videos, taken from interviews, TV shows, YouTube, TikTok, and even famous movies.
Each video comes with English subtitles and a Portuguese translation, as well as explanations of the expressions used.
You can repeat sentences aloud, record your pronunciation and compare it to the original.
To use this app, simply download it from the App Store or Play Store.
BBC Learning English:
If you already have an intermediate or advanced level and want to improve your English, BBC Learning English is the app for you.
Produced by the renowned British channel, the app brings together a wide variety of content, ranging from basic grammar to debates on current topics, all in clear and precise English, with standard British pronunciation.
What impresses me most about BBC Learning English is the quality of the content.
Nothing is amateur about it.
There you will find videos, podcasts, texts and even audio series with native actors performing realistic dialogues.
Download this app and enjoy it.
Which one is better?
In reality, there is no perfect app for learning English.
Each has its own advantages and is better suited to certain profiles.
Download the apps, test them, choose the one that best suits your style, and get started today.
Your “do you speak English?” will become “of course!” faster than you think.
Good luck and happy studying!
